We didn't really travel far from home to have a "trip" alone...On Thursday, January 1st, 2009, Nick and I celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary... All I told him was that I wanted to be surprised. He kept everything secret. He had a nice itinerary planned. We left in the afternoon and headed to Meyerland shopping area. I didn't really find anything to buy...even at the Talbots Outlet there. We did get a couple of things at Target, but they were out of the shoes I liked in my size. We then went to dinner at Los Tios...which is special because that is where we went on our first date, May 26, 1990. It wasn't the same location, because that one has been closed down. We shared some great fajitas and sopapillas. We then headed down to our stay for the night...Hyatt Regency Downtown. This is also special, because that is where we stayed on our wedding night...15 years ago (and then he left for the Navy the next day...) They put us on the 28th floor...it goes to 30! I didn't really like the elevators with open window to outside...the other side was open to the lobby...that was just a little better.
The next day Nick went for a morning work-out at their fitness center, and then we packed up to head out for more fun. We stopped for a late breakfast...practically lunch...at IHOP...very good and so full! We went to the Galleria and walked around, mostly "looking"...no shopping... We went ice skating, which Nick hasn't done much of. I hadn't been in while, but quickly started going good. We didn't do a lot of the "holding hands" skating...Nick was too scared of making us fall down, but we managed to skate for about an hour and a half with no falls! It was a lot of fun! We then went an checked in at the Hilton--Post Oak, which was right by the Galleria. It was a very nice room, and Nick did very well on getting these rooms and such great prices! This one even had a balcony... We got cleaned up and changed to go to our show...Yes, Nick bought us tickets to a very awesome show...and again...great job on getting great seats at a greater price! He took me to the Toyota Center to see the Radio City Music Hall's Rockette's Christmas Spectacular!!! It was sooo good. We weren't on the floor, but in the first section up, in great seats. It was an awesome show, more than just high kicking legs in unison...live camels, sheep, and a donkey...tons of other dancing...even 2 ice skaters on an ice rink. Afterwards, we were back at the Galleria for dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. We shared a very yummy chicken and sun-dried tomato fettucine dish, with very good ceasar salad and bread. We then took the slice of cheesecake to go...very delicious with peanut butter cup, carmel, and butterfinger bits...
Then, today, we woke up late, and got our things packed to check-out. We had decided to go to lunch at Taste of Texas. On our way, we stopped at IKEA. We ended up buying a side table that matches my coffee table in the formal...it was in the clearance area, in perfect brand-new shape...for only $41.00. Then, we had gotten to our lunch destination, that was NOT open for lunch on Saturday. So, we went next door to another awesome place--Pappadeaux. We each had a nice lunch special that included crawfish etouffee...Nick's had blackened catfish, while I had fried shrimp and fried crawfish...there was also shrimp in my etouffee. So yummy, and we still have some leftovers. So, we are at home, and the kids, especially Austin say they missed us. But, it was so nice to take a little trip just for ourselves. Nick accidentally told the bellhop at the Hyatt that it was our Honeymoon! How funny...more pics will be on the Facebook, myspace, and the family site...
